After harvesting the edible fruit is separated from the pips and the seeds are cold pressed to obtain the rich oil. Barbary Fig seeds are very hard and woody and contain less than 5% oil; 1000 kilos of fruit yields just one litre of oil, making it one of the most expensive and precious plant oils in the world.
